Quick Math Race for Groups at Home
A mental math race everyone can play from the couch. Share one link, join on phones, first to a score of 10 wins. Rounds take about as long as it takes to argue over what to play next.
What it is
One person creates a race and shares the link around the room. Everyone gets the same arithmetic questions on their own screen and answers as fast as they can. Right answers move your horse forward, wrong ones pull it back. First to a score of 10 wins.
No box, no board, no rules to explain. Anyone who can tap a number can play.
What you need
- A phone or tablet each. Any browser will do.
- A TV or laptop (optional). Leave the race screen up so everyone can watch the horses move.
- That's it. Nothing to install, nothing to sign up for.
Start in 3 steps
- Create & play. Type a nickname, pick the question type and difficulty, and you're the first one in.
- Share the link. Text it to the room, or read out the 6-digit code for everyone to enter at horseyrace.com.
- Race. Start it, count down from seven, and go.
Match the questions to the youngest player
Everyone in a race gets the same questions, so set it up for whoever is youngest and let the grown-ups sweat over answering easy sums fast.
Younger players
Addition at Trot — small numbers, no tricks. Move to subtraction once they're winning.
Everyone else
Mixed at Gallop — addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division at the biggest numbers.
Round ideas
- Straight race. First to a score of 10. One round, one winner, two minutes.
- Parents vs kids. Add up each side's finishing places. Losing team does the dishes.
- Best of three. Three rounds, tally the wins — hit "Play Again" to restart with the same players.
- Times-table night. Multiplication only, difficulty stepping up each round.
Pace it however you like
- No shared timer. Each player taps "Next question" when they're ready, so nobody is rushed by the group.
- Instant rematch. "Play Again" keeps the same players and deals a fresh set of questions.
- Latecomers welcome. Anyone can join with the link right up until the race starts.
Safe for kids
- No accounts, no email addresses, no passwords
- No chat — the only thing players type is a nickname
- No ads and nothing to buy
- No personal information stored: just a nickname and a score
See the privacy policy for the full picture.
The basics
- 2–15 players per race.
- +1 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong one — never below zero.
- First to a score of 10 wins, which takes about two to five minutes.
FAQ
What age is it good for?
Roughly seven and up on your own. Younger kids can play sharing a phone with an adult. Pick the Trot difficulty and addition to start, then move up.
Can grown-ups and kids race fairly?
Set the difficulty for the youngest player. Adults then have to answer easy questions very fast, which evens things out more than you would expect.
How long is a round?
Two to five minutes. A race ends when somebody reaches a score of 10.
Do we need to download anything?
No. It runs in a web browser on phones, tablets, and laptops. No app, no accounts, no ads.
Can we play if everyone is in a different house?
Yes. Send the race link to whoever you want to play with and everyone races from their own device.
