Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, completely free! No ads, no premium features, and no hidden costs. We believe mental math practice should be accessible to everyone.

Players go to horseyrace.com and enter the 6-digit race code shown on the host's screen, then pick a nickname. The host can also share a direct join link that fills in the code automatically.

Each race supports 2 to 15 players. You need at least 2 players to start, and everyone competes on the same mental math problems.

No account needed! Just enter a nickname when joining a race. We don't collect emails or personal information.

A correct answer is +1 and a wrong answer is −1, though your score never drops below zero. The first player to reach a score of 10 crosses the finish line and wins the race.

Horsey Race works on any device with a modern web browser:
  • Smartphones (iPhone, Android)
  • Tablets (iPad, Android tablets)
  • Laptops and desktop computers
  • Chromebooks
  • Smart TVs with browsers

Horsey Race is suitable for ages 6 and up. Picking the question type makes it adaptable:
  • Addition and subtraction: Great for elementary school kids (ages 6-10)
  • Multiplication and division: Good for building times-table fluency (ages 8-12)
  • Mixed: All four operations in one race, for older students and adults
Every type also comes in three difficulties — Trot, Canter and Gallop — so the same race works for a wider spread of ages.

You need at least 2 players since it's a competitive mental math race. The excitement comes from racing against others in real-time!

Most races last 2-5 minutes, depending on how quickly players solve the math problems. Perfect for quick mental math practice sessions!

Yes. When a race ends the host can hit Play Again to run another round with the same players and the same race code — nobody needs to rejoin. Scores reset to zero and a fresh set of questions is generated.

Simply rejoin using the same race code and nickname. The race continues for other players while you reconnect.

You pick two things when you create a race: the question type — addition, subtraction, multiplication, division or mixed — and how hard the numbers get, from Trot to Canter to Gallop. Questions are generated fresh each time, so no two races are the same. Writing your own questions isn't possible yet.

We don't collect personal information. A race stores only the nickname you type in and your score — no email addresses, no passwords, and no cookies used for tracking.
